Goldee Biography
Described as the "brutal truth," Goldee delivers a refreshing, original, and intelligent blend of hook-heavy hip-hop and rap that gets the crowd jumping. Whether it’s on a club banger, a hard-hitting gangsta track, a soft-edged R&B flavored song or a radio friendly hit, Goldee's lyrics take the listener on an emotional ride through thug life - sometimes harsh, sometimes heartfelt, but always the “brutal truth.” The next dose of the "brutal truth" is complete and was released March 13, 2007. Titled "Hustle High, Hat Low", the 19 track CD is a brutal assault on the senses that showcases Goldee's versatility.

Jarrell "Goldee" Short is an artist who calls his home Hammond, Louisiana. Goldee got his start at age 12 and has spent the last 9 years perfecting his craft. During that time he recorded 6 mixtapes, 8 features and 1 full length CD. He also shot a video and has performed live, gaining popularity in the south. In between recording and touring, Goldee has maintained a 3.4 GPA as a business major at Southeastern Louisiana University.

As a child, Goldee listened to 2Pac, Soulja Slim, 8 Ball & MJG and cites those artists, as well as the Louisiana and southern rap scene, as his early influences. These influences led Goldee to form CKG with his brother and cousin. The group performed locally and quickly gained a loyal fan base. The success of CKG was short-lived and ended when Goldee's mother’s death pushed him to the streets. Now being raised in the game, the tragedy forced young Goldee to focus on all he had left, his brothers and his rhymes.

Developing a style of flow described as "the brutal truth", Goldee honed his freestyle skills and released his first mixtape in 1999. This release led to the formation of Puretrubba with Goldee's longtime friend Big Chrome. Five years and four mixtapes later, Goldee was given the opportunity to pursue a solo CD.

Recorded in New Orleans, "Ready for tha Game" consisted of 16 sizzling tracks. The CD was to be released in October of 2005 with the video for the track "Louisiana" to be used for promotion. Unfortunately, Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans, taking with her both the studio and the master recordings. In fact, all that was found after the storm was a CD with 6 unmastered tracks on it.

Not one to sit idle, Goldee quickly recorded "Back At It." This mixtape caught the ear of the owner of Time Value Records who quickly signed Goldee and began plans for a new CD that showcased both Goldee's versatility and his "brutal truth" style. Goldee’s latest dose of the “brutal truth,” titled "Hustle High, Hat Low" hits stores on March 13th, 2007.

While all seven tracks from the Radio Edit CD have received airplay, the first single has garnered rave reviews and debuted at #2 on the NMW Top 40 Most Added Radio Chart and at # 11 on the NMW Hot A/C Most Added Radio Chart. The song peaked at #9 on the NMW Top 40 Indie Chart and was named as one of the Top40 "Up and Coming" Tracks.

The track "Sweet Mary" also reached #20 on the NMW AC/Hot AC Main chart and #31 on the Hot 100. The CD is doing equally well reaching #17 on the NMW Top College Chart.
